We are a medium-sized Title l school in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with students in grades preK-2. Our school has a strong focus on literacy.
Our library is vibrant and brimming with energy!
We meet at least once a week to learn about information literacy, technology and to enjoy free reading. I share the newest, best books with all the students of our school. They use tools like Seesaw to talk about books they like and share why they like them.
My Project
For the past four years, every student at our school has been introduced to eight nominees for the Great Lakes Great Books award. This is our children's book award in Michigan, sponsored by the Michigan Reading Association. All books are nominated and voted on by students, parents, and teachers in Michigan. There are eight books for K-1 and eight more for grades 2-3.
Our library budget has been slashed to a fraction of the national standard.
We cannot afford to purchase copies of all the nominees. This year, I want to provide multiple copies of every nominee so children can not only enjoy hearing them read aloud, but can also check them out and read them with their families before casting their vote.
