Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My twenty-one fourth-grade students from a neighborhood in Hartford are caring, creative, and love to have fun in the classroom! We can often be found using various methods to solve problems collaboratively, devouring books, and sharing our writing with others.
We have created a classroom community that expects excellence from all, specifically by showing respect for ourselves, for others, and for the environment at all times.
These expectations have helped us all persevere even when things challenge us.
Our classroom needs various resources and materials so that my students can receive the education that they deserve. I want to provide them with a classroom where they can discover new ideas and unlock their full potential. They are a wonderful group that brings a smile to my face every day!
My Project
One of my favorite times of day for my students is guided reading. It's when I get to really focus on my students' varied reading needs and help push them to being the best readers they can be. Since our school is lacking resources, we do not have access to quality literature for my students who are at or above grade level. Many of the books that are available were published a long time ago and are in poor condition. I want to be able to provide them with books that I know are well written and are engaging for current day readers.
All of the fiction books I've selected for my groups are books I have read before, so I know that they are engaging and will address the needs of my students.
Similarly, the nonfiction texts are about subjects that my students have background knowledge on, unlike the nonfiction texts we have available at our school.
By donating to our project, you are ensuring that my students who are reading at a third or fourth grade level will read well-written, exciting, and engaging books during guided reading. Thank you!
