Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are talented, hard working, and creative. Every day they are trying their best to learn new things. Working at a Title I school has really been an eye opening experience. Knowing that the students need someone in their corner rooting for them has really impacted my thoughts on teaching. I want to be able to go above and beyond for my students so that they can go to college. For example, my students are always asking about how they can better prepare for their future. One student said, 'I want to read more nonfiction about science so I can become a doctor.'
My students need more support than I can give them.
Most of my students parents are working multiple jobs, leaving them to take care of their younger siblings. My students are extremely hard working and motivated for their future. Their work ethic is really inspiring. They want to learn, they want to do better, and they want to make an impact in the world. Despite the many challenges facing them, they continue to come to school with a smile on their face and with an open heart.
My Project
These games will help reinforce how learning is fun! I want my students to be able to expand their vocabulary so they can expand their reading skills. For example, Money Bags will help my students learn more about money and how to work with money. I have noticed my students need help counting money and interacting with it.
All of these games encourage cooperative learning and encourage the students to share their ideas.
Allowance will help my students learn how they can manage money when they earn that. These games will provide them with real life simulations they can learn from in a fun cooperative way. I like how the games will allow the students to learn from each other while also teaching them skills that they are lagging. These materials will allow my students to have more fun when they are working in class while also teaching them new skills. The skills that the students will learn will improve their reading ability while simultaneously teaching them the cooperative skills they will need to become leaders.
