Help me give my students contemporary games like Ticket to Ride, Dixit, and Pandemic as well as classic games like chess, Touring, Set, and cards to build community and cooperation in a library club!
Ours is a school uniquely committed to a balance of both an intensive accelerated academic program and an in-depth, three-year art program. Our academic and arts curriculum is rounded out by a strong commitment to community service, sustainability, and philanthropy, with ongoing activities and initiatives that have become infused into the culture of our school.
I host 60-90 students daily in the library during lunch and I am always looking for positive ways for them to connect with each other, relax, and build community.
With the help of Donors Choose last year, I was able to start a knitting & crocheting club that has brought parent and community volunteers in to help, and now I'd like to start a tabletop gaming club with the help of another teacher to promote strategic thinking, empathy through roleplaying, and fun!
My Project
Board games use engaging themes and graphics to draw kids into complex strategy exercises. Middle school students benefit from the one-on-one communication skills needed when they put down electronic devices and engage in focused partner and group play.
My students need a variety of contemporary and classic board games to build community and empathy through a library lunch club.
Games like Pandemic, Ticket to Ride, Quadropolis and Dixit tie into their work in science, social studies, math, and ELA classes. Classic games like chess, Touring, Set, and old-fashioned card games give students a chance to relax together and form friendships with a new group of peers.
