I am a second-year teacher in a fourth-grade classroom. My school is labeled as high poverty and high ESL population school.
My students come from all different kinds of backgrounds.
Their unique make-up requires me to think out of the box when teaching new, possibly difficult skills. Improving reading skills in third grade is one of those difficult skills.
Receiving the necessary supplies and materials needed to get creative with my teaching will help prepare my students to be as successful as possible.
My Project
My students love to read, and I love to give them access to great books. One way we get books into the hands of kids at my school is through a book giveaway during February's I Love to Read Month. As a school, we collect 500 or more brand new books. These books are put out during a day-long "Eagle Book Shop."
This has become a favorite day for the students and staff.
Every one of the awesome books in this project will be given to kids to keep! Each student in the school will get a choice. The books I am requesting in this project are some "old favorites". Big Nate, Diary of Wimpy Kid and Dork Diaries are constant favorites of kids throughout the grades, and they often work their way through the series as they work their way through school! I am excited to provide them copies of the books to keep!
