I teach in a small public charter school with an extremely diverse group of students. Many of my students have been in school together since kindergarten and are a tight knit group who loves to challenge themselves and each other.
My accelerated students are bright, inquisitive, and love to learn new things.
They enjoy looking at what they've already learned through a new lens, seeing how literature interacts with their world. They like to ask questions and are incredibly imaginative, and this novel study will help them to synthesize the various topics we’ve discussed in our three years together as they prepare for high school.
My accelerated students always need a new challenge and a new perspective. Reading Lord of the Flies will help them to challenge themselves as readers as well as examine their own classroom community more deeply.
Through this novel study, my students will gain a deeper understanding of themselves and how they interact with others.
This novel study will help challenge my students to read outside of their comfort zone and to think in new ways. It will encourage discussion, community, and help them to apply literature to their own lives. As they prepare for high school and new experiences, it will help them understand their role in society.
