Our school serves students in grades K-5 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment.
Many of our students are being raised in single parent households
and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status.
My third-grade class is comprised of amazing students, many of whom come from bilingual households and receive free or reduced price lunch.
In my class, I focus on student potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our reluctant learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
I have a great respect for every one of my students! As a class, we build mutual respect daily with time spent sharing our thoughts on a variety of subjects, and we often reference books we have read together.
My students need a variety of great book choices to read because
great book choices strengthens their cultural literacy, and furthermore, encourages them to build a lifelong love of learning. Some of my students face enormous challenges and yet they come into class cheerful and ready to learn.
My students are kind, friendly, tenacious, quirky, dedicated, caring, hilarious, brilliant, creative, and unique. Our school has an excellent reputation for student improvement and learning, and the atmosphere is one of close collaboration and community involvement. Students share their excitement for good books with their own grade level, with buddy classes, with parents, and also by writing in their personal journals to continue the reflection process. Additionally, students are rewarded monthly for their reading accomplishments.
