My students need books that give them a safe way to talk about things that they, someone they know, or someone that they meet in the future may be going through in their lives.
My students walk into class every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them. Everyday we start our morning singing our Good Morning Song. I start the song and I sing to the kids "Good morning and how are you?" they reply, "In the morning I clap my hands, in the morning I do my dance, in the morning I shout HOORAY this is going to be a wonderful day!" I want them to love coming to school and doing this together gets them so excited.
Many of my students in our school struggle with a difficult home life and the one thing I want them to have is a place for them to go where they leave all of that behind and enjoy being a student.
I want them to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
Student's have the right to walk into THEIR school and feel safe, loved, understood, and respected. Author Julia Cook gives children the chance to express themselves, realize they are not alone, understand what others may be going through, and know that they have someone they can always talk to. These books make it easier to introduce and discuss tough topics with young children who are growing and going though many things in their lives.
Baditude, Bully BEANS, Peer Pressure Gauge, and How To Be Comfortable in Your Own Feathers are just few of the many wonderful titles that help make teaching Character Education, discussing hard topics, and allowing students a way to release stress in a safe environment.
