My students need graphing calculators. This resource allows them to access mathematics in an advanced and exciting manner. It provides an opportunity for students to use technology appropriately in an increasingly digital world.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school in Washington DC where 100% of the students receive free and reduced price lunch. Unfortunately this means that I work in a sometimes resource short environment. A large number of my students are numerous grade levels behind in reading and mathematics by the time they reach my classroom. Despite the difficulties my students face, they show resiliency beyond their years. Every single day they come to school ready to learn and deserve the resources that will allow them to do so.
My Project
Graphing Calculators have become an essential part of the high school mathematics curriculum. This resource allows students to access high level mathematics in an efficient, effective manner. They are used on a daily basis in my classroom to enhance student learning. Graphing calculators can be used to learn about functions, trigonometry, standard deviation, variance, and so much more!
Graphing Calculators provide an opportunity for students to engage in critical thinking by analyzing mathematical content.
Students also learn how to use technology appropriately and effectively in an increasingly digital world. This is a tool to help my students become problem solvers and critical thinkers!
