My Students

My advanced math students are discovering how technology will help them solve mathematical problems in a shorter amount of time than just using paper and pencil.

My school is a 6th-8th grade middle school comprised of approximately 1,100 students who come from various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Our school has embraced the National Common Core Curriculum which has high standards for students in mathematics.

My Project

The graphing calculators (and needed batteries) will allow my students to explore solving mathematical problems like graphing a company's cost and income function, then being able to trace the lines to find the break-even point. They will learn that something they do with paper and pencil can be done with technology more efficiently and accurately.

This project will help my classroom because we live in a society that is driven by technology.

Students need to have access to technology at an early age to understand the importance of learning the basics of mathematics and how it applies to technology that they will use in high school, college, and eventually their careers.
