My Students

I am a high school special education teacher. My students are special needs students with mild to moderate learning disabilities. They are learning pre-algebra and algebra.

My students do not let their learning disabilities limit their thirst for knowledge.

They come to class everyday with a desire to learn as much as they can. As of this time, we are sharing three graphing calculators and it is having a negative impact on their ability to learn. We are a public school located in a poor, rural community and the funds to purchase more calculators are not available.

My Project

The students will use the graphing calculators to enhance their learning experience in their pre-algebra and algebra classes. Most of the lessons in this subject area require a calculator to complete the assignments. However, with only three available we have to either skip the problems that require one to be used or waste valuable time waiting on the ones we have to be passed around.

We currently have 3 calculators for 10 students to share.

This does not make for a very conducive learning experience. The additional calculators will allow each student to have their own during the entire class period.
