Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At our school, our mission is to inspire the love of learning within our students. In the math department, we inspire the love of learning by providing access to interesting and meaningful problems, creating an environment of safety and collaboration, building a mathematical mindset, and developing the skill set to complete specific mathematical tasks.

The results of the hard work of the students, the teachers, and the curriculum can be seen in the skills and habits of our students.

By the twelfth grade, our students are capable of simplifying expressions, solving equations, factoring a polynomial, graphing, and algebraically representing trig functions and conic sections. Students can take derivatives, write a proof, find the dot product, derive the volume of a sphere, and demonstrate trig identities. Students are capable of completing and discussing a problem without the aid or direction of a teacher. Students learn to aptly assess their understanding of the material and the way they interact with their peers or engage with the material. Students learn to advocate for their needs and solve their problems by themselves. Our students have the ability, tools, and desire to solve just about any problem in a high school math curriculum.
