My students need 2 graphing calculators and 10 dry erase boards to use in class. They will be kept in the classroom for students to use in order to visualize functions and equations.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are often very visual learners and are confused trying to understand meaningful parts of equations and functions when given just the algebraic representation. Graphing each function by hand takes time and can contain errors which defeats the purpose of seeing the visual.
My students attend a small charter school in a suburban and rural environment.
The school is fairly evenly split between low income families in agriculture related work and those that work at a local science research facility. There is a large emphasis with families and students on technology and science/math education, yet many students do not have the technological resources to bring these fields to life. My students are excited about learning, particularly when they can interact with the content and apply concepts to real life.
My Project
I'm requesting two TI Nspire graphing calculators for the class to use. This calculator can show students visual representations of the functions that they will be working with. Students can also manipulate the functions to observe changes in the image when they change the equation. This personal interaction with the math will engage students and facilitate long term retention. The graphic whiteboards will allow students to do their work and show the teacher to get immediate feedback. This is invaluable for assessing lessons as I teach.
This project will get students excited about their math lesson, and will help deepen their conceptual understanding of the material.
The white boards are fun for students and give me a chance to see what the students know immediately. Students will be more engaged in the math lesson if they have these items in class to help their learning.
