Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are inquisitive, dedicated, and diverse. They work hard and use problem-solving strategies to find solutions to challenging math problems. They push themselves and strive to learn new things each day. Their effort makes me feel dedicated to helping each and every one of them find success.

Many students in my classroom do not have the means for essential classroom supplies.

Our school is located in an urban setting and our population is ethnically and economically diverse.

Our district implements a variety of learning strategies and techniques, including student-centered learning. Group collaboration and differentiation ensure that all of my students' needs are met. I am fortunate to work with a group of students who are passionate and try to maintain a positive attitude even when faced with setbacks.

My Project

I have a mixture of in-person students and distance learners this year. I would like to give each student a care package of essential materials they will need to graph functions at home and in the classroom. We have been studying linear and quadratic functions so far this year and will be studying square root, exponential, polynomial, absolute value, and other types of functions as the year progresses. Graphing is a significant portion of each of the units we study in Algebra 2.

My students need graphing notepads to make neat and accurate graphs for the functions we study in Algebra 2 as well as styluses when graphing online using their touch-screen laptops.

I have been passing out individual sheets of graph paper for my in-person students, but would like to limit having to pass materials around to maintain proper social distancing. I have noticed that my distance learning students do not have graph paper at home, so they have been trying to graph on notebook paper. Giving each student their own graphing notepad will be very beneficial. I would also like to provide each student with a stylus for their school-issued laptop. I would like to utilize Kami, a resource that allows you to write on a PDF. This is a great way for students to submit their work in a digital, paperless format. The stylus will make writing their work out and graphing the functions much neater and easier to do. I will put the graphing notepad and stylus in a 2-pocket folder with each student's name on it and pass them out to all of my in-person students as well as have them available for my distance learners to pick up from the school and take home to use throughout the rest of the school year.
