This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Like many of us, my students love a good story and my classroom centers around them in the form of personal stories, folk/fairy tales, fairy tales, and stories that make up songs, etc. I want to explore the world of the graphic novel as a medium for students to take these stories and make them their own with pictures, colors, and text.

The graphic novel medium uses dual-coding theory; that is, the use of visuals and text simultaneously help students learn and retain the stories they encounter in class.

It's a great approach to literacy.

Finally, students will have the freedom to tailor these stories in a way that makes them their own, share with the class, and keep as a memento.
