Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are English Language Learners who have a wide range of English language levels. They are students who are enrolled in general education classes but need support in developing their English language skills in order to excel in their other subjects. About 25% of the students in our school are English language learners.
In order to fully access the grade level curriculum, my students need support in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English.
This will help them be their most successful in school and their future career paths.
My Project
My students are wonderful and hard-working! As English language learners, some of my students are reading below grade level but working very hard to improve their reading. They love graphic novels and I know my younger students will be excited about the K-3 graphic novels that we have already received. I also teach grades 5 and 6 and I would love to have graphic novels that appeal to them too.
Students just love graphic novels!
I only have 1 or 2 in my classroom library so far, and they always take turns borrowing them. I would love to give them more access to graphic novels to keep encouraging their reading growth.
