Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students live in a world where they face trials and tribulations that most adults have never seen. My students live in a world where violence is always the answer and books are not their favorite things. It is my goal to instill in them a life long love of books.

My students are a wonderful group of middle school students who live in a poverty stricken area.

Each and every day my students must navigate the school day with the problems of the community filling their minds. My students are struggling readers that find difficulty in finding just-right books. I believe the graphic novels would help many of them find the books that are perfect for them.

My Project

My students will use the materials for independent reading time. The students devour graphic novels and I cannot keep up with the speed they read them. The graphic novels will be used to increase the students reading stamina and build their reading level.

This project will make a difference by adding to our classroom library.

As a new teacher my library has not had the ability to grow in just a year. This project will greatly increase my library and create a class set of books to be used as shared reading.
