My Students
The most rewarding part of being a teacher is seeing students achieve goals they never even thought possible. This has been my experience with the most dedicated, driven group I have encountered in my 17 years of teaching.
These students are determined to overcome stereotypes and become the first of their families to attend a university.
Through focused curriculum geared towards college readiness, these students are rising to the challenge to accomplish their dreams. Their motto: Learning today, Leading Tomorrow.
My Project
Often my students come to me below reading level. One of the most engaging strategies I have used is the implementation of graphic novels.
Help my students build a library they look forward to perusing and devouring as they increase their reading comprehension, creative thinking, and reading stamina with engaging, exciting texts that capture the imagination and dazzle the senses.
The few in class are oft in high demand and students love the opportunity to read self-selected novels on their own grade level and higher. These alternative texts drive discussion and creative output for learning while also giving them a voice in the classroom.
