My Students
Our students are an amazing, creative, and energetic group of individuals. They all come to school excited to experience success and ready to learn. They work together to create a classroom environment that is inclusive and safe for everyone.
They are passionate about art projects, protecting our earth, making a difference, and learning new skills.
These students face many challenges. We are a Title One school that currently has over sixty percent of the students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. They work really hard and are eager to learn.
My Project
As a teacher, I make it a priority to have interesting and eye catching books in our class library. TOON books encourage all kinds of readers. Initially, children are drawn to the pictures. They will be pulled in to read the stories and to read more. Comic books can be used as serious novels for independent reading or during guided reading instruction.
I want to make sure that our classroom library has books that get every kid interested in reading, even if they want to read the same book over and over again.
Having a wide variety of TOON graphic novels, such as The Dragon Slayer: Tales from Latin America, Lost in NYC: A Subway Adventure, The White Snake, The Secret of the Stone Frog, and Black Heroes of the Wild West Lunch Lady series, in our class library, will help get kids invested in reading, no matter what their favorite subject matter is. Igniting this love for reading through graphic novels will carry on throughout their lives and serve them well!
This set of 52 books will benefit our whole school. The hardcover books will used for my classroom library. The rest of the books will be a popular choice for our school vending machine. The vending machine is place where all students have the opportunity to earn a book by following the school rules. This incredible match is a great opportunity to encourage all kinds of readers.
