This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students truly enjoy reading, and they are great readers, but they need some motivation! They are in love with graphic novels. These novels are featured on national best-selling lists for kids, and I'd love to see these in their hands. Please help!
I have 24 students that attend a Magnet School in North Carolina.
We all enjoy reading, and I want to motivate my reluctant readers to stick with books more often. My students LOVE sports, music and reading together. It would be our dream to have more graphic novels in the classroom so we can expand our minds and think more deeply about what we read.
My Project
If my students were able to obtain these materials, we could create book clubs and have discussions about our thoughts based off what we read. Students will learn skills to work cooperatively and to be able to discuss literature. This project will also provide students with the ability to read independently on their own. Students will acquire new background knowledge and vocabulary through exposure to text.
If I could have this project granted, I would be able to provide my students with the ability to read materials independently when they might not have that opportunity at home.
I would love to see these readings in their hands and for them to get the chance to discuss quality children's literature.
