Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a literacy teacher who works with teachers, special needs students, and general education students to improve literacy skills.
I currently see over 200 students, including students with special needs, English language learners, and gifted students.
Almost 93% of our school is considered low-income and receives free or reduced-rate lunch. The student body consists of 65% Latino, 30% African American, and 5% Caucasian. They are eager to learn and have a passionate drive to excel. We are always trying to introduce our students to authentic books in order to create lifelong readers.
My Project
Most of my day is spent teaching children literacy. In my classroom, students work in literacy centers and guided reading groups. They need leveled texts to use during their literacy block. These leveled books will allow my students to work with peers and myself to improve their reading skills and have meaningful discussions about what they are reading. My students need to learn not only how to read, but to understand and apply what they are reading through literacy activities. With these books, they will gain more confidence as a reader because the books are differentiated to meet the needs of the students in my classroom.
Your donation will encourage my students to read independently and with their peers.
These books will help make my students lifelong readers inside and outside of the classroom. They will gain the confidence they need to understand the importance of reading in order to become successful. Thank you so much for your support!
