Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school serves a diverse and urban population full of passionate and creative thinkers and learners. Our youngest students were so greatly impacted by COVID that many are very behind in their grade-level reading standards. They have intervention provided, and this new class is designed to work on reading skills in a unique and engaging way while building students' confidence.

My Project

This selection of graphic novels will be added to a classroom library that runs a Ggraphic novel remedial reading course to help students whose reading level is well below grade level in grade 9 or 10.

These books provide students with engaging ways to learn about plot, symbolism, characterization, and other elements of literature while enjoying the artistic craft and unique stories in the graphic novel genre.

The course also teaches about the production of graphic novels and the history of graphic novels from the basic comic book to the noteworthy genre it has become. Students will be assessed as they are in core ELA classes to master analysis and text-based argument writing.
