Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My English classes are made up 9th graders diverse in ability, interests, cultural background and upbringing. Even though the classes are made up of diverse students, the students are collectively a group of energetic and polite children. I have 4 periods with an average of 28 students in each one. The students have different needs and abelites, which includes students with disabilities and English learners. The students are motivated and eager to learn everyday they are in my classroom. They want to be successful and do their best to help each other and contribute to our classroom community.

My Project

The graphic novel of the book "To Kill a Mockingbird" will allow for my students with disabilities to follow along as we read this novel in class.

This gives students a chance to understand the story a bit easier, specifically for those who are visual learners.

They will have the ability to participate in class discussions and complete assigned work. They have less text than traditional books, which makes them less overwhelming. Graphic novels are easy to read but have age-appropriate content. Graphic novels are engaging and high-quality reading material.
