Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am currently in charge of 4 classes of wonderful 10th grade students. They all have academic curiosity and often express interest and enthusiasm in the many themes, topics, and lessons we cover in our English class.
My students are avid learners who often challenge themselves and their classmates in academic environments.
From getting to know these wonderful students, I am aware of their social and economic backgrounds. The majority of my students come from low-income backgrounds, are bilingual learners, and are first-generation sons/daughters of immigrant parents. Thus, they benefit from inclusive curriculum that supports their needs and books that reflect their own economic and cultural background.
My Project
I have a class of diverse learners and diverse readers. Graphic novels, comics, and manga are known to not only be high interest for students but actually are known to help with struggling readers. Having a classroom library featuring graphic novels, comics, and manga will give struggling readers access to graphic novels that they don't normally have access to. In addition to access, this classroom library will help 5 classes of students and will be passed for additional school years to come. Please help in building up our classroom library.
