Grammar Nerds, My Class Needs Your (Not You're) Help! Part1
My students need the Flowering Plant Life Cycle classroom kit for hands on STEM learning as well as grammar boxes and cards to improve their STEM reading and writing.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Hi, I'm a lower Elementary, Montessori trained teacher within a public school, 91% of the students at my school qualify for free or reduced lunch due to poverty. My students are eager to learn and come to school with a smile on their face, despite the fact that many of them come from poverty stricken homes. I love to see Montessori education offered in a public school setting within an urban district. It is amazing to see how my students can progress academically through this hands-on approach to learning.
My Project
This year, one of my goals is to incorporate more hands on science lessons in my classroom. Our school has a garden that the older students plant and tend as part of our school's middle and high school STEM program. The flowering plant life cycle kit in this project would allow my younger students to participate in a similar smaller scale project. In addition to learning about an important subject, it would provide them with an exciting connection to the older students.
When my students are able to talk and write about their research in a more sophisticated way, deeper learning occurs.
In my classroom, we use grammar boxes and cards to learn the different parts of speech and practice using them effectively. Reading and writing is a very important part of the STEM curriculum in my classroom, and these materials will be used in conjunction with the plant life cycle kit to give my students opportunities to improve their reading and writing of scientific topics with hands on activities. My current grammar boxes have been well loved and used. They are chipped, cracked, and faded. This project will allow me to replace the old set.
