Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are special education, general education, and English as a Second Language students. They are inner city kids that come from homes that are very different than the suburban kids.
In my school, we have twenty-six different countries represented.
Over half of our student population are ESL (English as a Second Language) students. We are currently a Level 4 school. Our students are hard-working and we are working an extended day to push them to become true lifelong learners.
My students come from homes where poverty is the norm. Sometimes they have no clue where their next meal will be from, or if mom/dad will be there when they get home from school. My classroom is full of many different learners. I love going to work every day because, as an educator, I am challenged in many different ways. I feel like I am truly making a difference in these students' lives.
My Project
Grade 5 is planning a math night! We need this kit to be able to plan our math night. After we use it for math night we are planning on using this kit to enforce math skills that the students are struggling. We are planning on using the kit to plan centers.
My students are hands on learners.
They need every opportunity to practice these new skills as well as show what they know. Grade five students learn about fractions and this kit will help enforce these new skills. Grade 5 students will benefit from this kit on math night as well as, in the classroom.
