Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love to come to school and they love to learn. However, teaching in an urban district which is a low-income area where over 95% of our students receive free or reduced-price breakfast/lunch can be challenging. Most of my students come from a background of trauma and require not only academic support, but social and emotional support throughout the day. My goal is to make their school experience meaningful and fun while also setting high expectations and providing a safe, loving environment for all of my students no matter their circumstances.
My Project
The Google Home will make a ton of difference within my classroom. Beyond the basic exposure to voice related technology, the Device will save me time and help simplify my classroom management routines. For example, I can say, “Goggle, set a ten-minute timer,” and the device will start timing the task right away. When it comes to randomly pairing or grouping students, it has several different random generating options.
During the core subjects Google Home can tell stories, which are child-friendly, or I can play an audio-book.
It can reinforce vocabulary, provide definitions, pictures etc. This will be priceless for the majority of my class which is ESL. During Math and Science, It can do basic calculations, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. I can have the kids use the device to find the answers, or use these tools to “check” my students' math after completion. Additionally, It has many probability tools, such as “Roll the dice” or ways to group the students. Since the device is essentially a search device, we can use the device to search information about science topics we are covering, ask about today's weather, or search the headlines of the day. The possibilities are endless and the internet is filled with amazing ideas to help facilitate Goggle in the classroom.
