My Students
Avid readers, inquisitive, active, athletic, humorous, caring, and thoughtful are all words I would use to describe my current students. I'm currently team teaching with another teacher, teaching both classes writing and social studies. My homeroom students also have me for reading instruction. My classes enjoy taking a break midday to move and exercise to GoNoodle. However, they also enjoy quiet time to find a comfortable spot in the room to sit and read. My students are an engaged group of writers who also enjoy working their way through the writing process and sharing their work with their peers.
I hope to continue to build their curiosity, motivating them to ask questions about the world, and then guiding them through the process of finding information related to their topic.
My Project
Through a pretest, I found that most of my third grade students cannot identify the contents and oceans of the world. I would like to supply the class with kid friendly atlases, a geography game, and some class posters to support their learning of this material.
Students will complete exploratory lessons using the atlases to become more familiar with the shapes and locations of contents.
We will then begin to make connections between location and study further in to climate, landforms, and resources.
To keep the student momentum with this topic, students will also have access to the World Card game to use during choice, or free time.
The class will take a post test at the end of the unit to see if their score in continent and ocean identification has improved.
