Hello! I would love to obtain books by Grace Lin for my classroom. Ms. Lin writes and illustrates vibrant, informative books, many of which feature Chinese-American children. These books have themes relating to Chinese-American culture. My school is predominately Asian, and it is so important that the children see themselves represented in the books they read. I have a few Grace Lin books now. The children are so proud when they can recognize and share an item or theme in these books.
I plan to use Grace Lin's books as a jumping off point for a unit on Chinese-American and Chinese culture. I teach this unit every year, and it is a favorite with the kids. The children learn Chinese calligraphy. They also make fans, lanterns, dragon puppets, and scroll paintings. We even have a dim sum lunch. The unit ends with a big celebration for Chinese New Year! Grace Lin's books would be perfect to support these projects!
