My students need opportunities to explore the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math, STEAM, through hands-on learning activities. My students need storage bins for their materials.
Our school is a small school within a relatively large county. It is considered a "country" school as it sits on the outskirts of our county. Having opened in the early 1950s, we have generations of families who have attended our school. We also have new communities in our attendance area that bring in students from military families. These students bring experiences from the outside world to us. We have also seen an increase in our English Language Learner population which brings a beautiful multi-cultural element to our school.
Although small, our school is making a worthwhile impact on the world.
Our students excel in academic performance and carry this with them beyond our walls. Teachers from around our county often come to visit to see how our students are responding to the innovative teaching styles of their teachers. Their responses inspire other educators who carry the teaching styles back to their students. Among our alumni, we have a Duke/Harvard graduate practicing law, numerous teachers, farmers managing their own businesses including one who earned an American F.F.A. Degree, a leader in technology for our school system, and a recent graduate of the John Deere Agricultural Tech Program at Wake Tech.
My Project
This year, our school embraced the Maker Movement by eliminating our outdated computer lab and replacing it with a STEAM; Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math lab. We have had positive feedback from the majority of stakeholders. However, we noticed a need to make the activities more streamlined for our educators.
Therefore, we would like to order a multitude of bins in order to place lessons, objectives, and materials into containers so that teachers can grab and go to the STEAM lab with their students!
These bins will decrease the amount of time required for teacher preparedness and anxiety while increasing student participation and enthusiasm!
