My awesome 5th grade class is from Oklahoma. They are a great group of kids with a high drive to learn. A large percentage of my kids are from very low socioeconomic homes. Many of these kids are begging to learn, but are not fortunate enough to have the means to do so. 78% of our students receive free and reduced price lunches, therefore, many kids do not have access to innovative ways to learn at home.
I want the kids to love to come to my class, enjoy the atmosphere of the room while getting the most rigorous education they can possibly receive.
My classroom may be one of the only places in which they can learn in a unique way.
My Project
We are trying to make our classroom homier and more inviting. Kids need to feel comfortable in their learning environment. Many of my kids feel more at home at school than their own home. I want them to be able to focus on their learning and not be distracted with being uncomfortable. I would like for them to be able to make a choice in their classroom as to where they would like to sit.
These stools will be set up at a bar type counter around the room.
Our room is styled like a coffee shop setting, with different types of flexible seating, such as, high- top tables, booths, and a counter around the edge of the room. The stools would make a great addition to this flexible seating.
When kids have control of their environment and learning, then they are more likely to give it their all.
