Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is located in the heart of the Yakima Valley, on the Yakama Nation Indian Reservation. My 3rd grade students come from a variety of different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. 100% of my students qualify for free or reduced price lunch, which means most of our families are considered low income status.
I believe the more time students spend reading, the better readers they will become.
With the majority of my students' parents working in the agriculture industry, there isn't very much time spent reading at home. Therefore, many of my students enter 3rd grade as English Language Learners who are reading below the correct grade level.
I strive to make my classroom a safe place for students to learn and grow. My students come into class each day eager to learn more and strive to reach their goals.
My Project
My students need a few important tools in order for small group intervention to be successful. 1. strong and durable reusable plastic pocket sleeve to be able to participate during intervention time. These pockets are perfect for applying student math worksheets and also serve as a dry erase, perfect for small group instruction. 2. 18'' sturdy stools; will allow students to release extra energy without being a distraction to their peers while staying focused in small group instruction.and 3. Mini size dry erase magnetic erasers.
Having these simple supplies will allow students to stay focused while getting the extra help they need in order to succeed in 3rd grade.
