We need transportation to tour Tallahassee, the State Capitol of Florida, while the State Legislation is in session and tour the various universities and colleges in the area such as FAMU, FSU, and TCC.

L. is a school serving scholars in grades K-8, with a population of around 200 scholars. The school is unique, not only because of its small size, but also its scholar demographics. Ninety-eight percent of Legacy Prep's scholar population is eligible to receive free or reduced price lunch and over 90% of the scholars reside in single parent households. In spite of their socioeconomic conditions, the scholars are performing better and surpassing those in many traditional public schools. At L., we have pledged to deliver programs to increase the critical success of our children. Our mission is to provide educational programs and services that foster improved academic success and wellness. To do this, we must have funding that will support our efforts.
Scholars will benefit from a first hand experience of how government affects the daily lives of citizens at the local, state, and national levels. They will learn the structure and functions of government as well as understanding how bills are introduced, amended and becoming a law.
Scholars will be able to determine how laws are made and who has the authority to make them and how it affects their communities as a whole. It also would allow scholars to work together as peer mentors and solve their day to day conflicts by using actual laws. Scholars can organize a mock case to demonstrate their understanding.
As a scholar, I would like to visit the Capitol and see the Legislation in session because it would give me a better understanding how laws are made locally and on the state level. Another goal I like to see accomplish is being able to visit FAMU and FSU because no one in my family has ever visited before.

I will the most of this leadership opportunity in creating this project because it will be beneficial to us and it would help us in the classroom. I will do my best to make sure we as scholars research information on legislative sessions and the history of FAMU, FSU, and Tallahassee Community College which will allow us to ask questions that are relevant to our studies.

This project is important to our school community because we are a Title I school and the majority of us have no idea what goes in a Legislative Session. We are considered at risk scholars because of our background or the area we live and go to school in. I believe this will change how we see government on a positive note. Most of us have never been out of Hillsborough County or been on a college campus. This would be an eye opener for us.
