American government is much more than the rote memorization of facts, it's about the moments that really change people's lives. I teach 10-12 graders at an urban high school, a school in which 70% of students qualify for free and reduced lunch.

There is limited funding for extra requests such as an LCD projector. Yet, students have repeatedly asked for more visuals to support the required content.

An LCD projector would enable me to open up a huge library of educational videos that would support and enhance my class. My school district provides all teachers with a free subscription to United Streaming, a digital video-on-demand and online teaching service. However, without a projector, it's virtually impossible to share the videos with students.

The government curriculum I teach is anchored by a high-stakes standardized test which is tied to graduation. Thus it is easy to get bogged down in "assessment limits" and forget to provide students with materials that will augment and illustrate the government's power in the lives of citizens. A donation of an LCD projector would support visual learners and open up a wealth of resources that otherwise remain untapped.
