Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are survivors of the very recent California Camp Fire in Paradise and Magalia. They have lost so much; their homes, families, pets, and their belongings. One consistent aspects of my students' lives is their school and teacher. They come to school in hopes of some normalcy and they get that, but unfortunately my students have had so much trauma from losing so much that they are having a difficult time focusing, functioning and feeling comforted in school like they did prior to the Camp Fire.
My students often come to school with stress and sadness that they cannot even comprehend or manage, therefore these feelings are revealed through distractions, restlessness, and physical behavior.
I want the best learning experiences and opportunities for my students to have a quality education. I can provide many of those aspects for them but I need help in providing stimulating science materials that are hands on and entertaining so they can engage and get caught up in fun science projects while learning about the world around them.
My Project
My students are so curious about how objects and structures work in the world and they enjoy learning about animals and how animals live in the world around them. These awesome science materials will activate my students curiosity for learning and will make our science lessons come to life in our classroom.
These science materials including KNEX pieces and magnet kits will allow for my students to build models that teach engineering practices, such as how structures can move and become stable and some of these science materials will allow my students to manipulate and create habitats through hands on placement of life science objects which will deepen their understanding about plants and animals in the world around them.
My students will have hours of learning science in a fun and active manner which will only enhance our science curriculum.
