My students are mostly English Language Learners and speak Spanish. Most of my class is from Puerto Rico and were forced to move to the United States because of Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria. Because of that, the students come from low income families. The school provides free breakfast, lunch, and food bags to my children.
Although they have been through some hard times, the students are the most loving and grateful bunch.
They are motivated learners and strive to be successful. Being a first year teacher, I want to provide them with what they need to grow and support them through their challenges.
These materials will help my students be able to move around, while staying focused. First graders should not have to sit still in a chair all day long. Offering a chance for them to move keeps their blood pumping and allows the blood to circulate. This helps them feel more awake and alert throughout the day. It also allows them to get comfortable which helps them focus on the task at hand.
Stretch bands will go on the bottoms of the chairs so students can get the wiggles out.
The rest of the materials will be used as flexible seating options.
