I work with a large culturally and linguistically diverse group of amazing learners, which include K-3rd grade levels. Our classroom environment is warm, welcoming, and student-friendly. My students are an amazing group of individuals with various abilities. Our classroom is full of students who are ready to learn and who will persist even when things are hard. Being a hard worker in my class means completing assignments, putting forth their maximum effort into every assignment, asking for extra help when they need it, and recognizing weaknesses and looking for ways to improve. My students are motivated to learn and they want to be at school, want to learn, and want to succeed.
I will use the Kindergarten book (blue) and Primary book (yellow) to help my kinders increase their phonemic awareness skills. The two books each include 10 activities that are taught within each lesson (eight phonemic awareness skills and 2 additional activities) to develop letter name and letter-sound recognition and language awareness activities. During the language awareness activities, my students will learn nursery rhymes. Through the daily lessons, my students will engage in activities teaching early skills such as rhyming and onset fluency, basic skills of blending and segmenting sounds, and working with the complex and advanced skills of substituting, adding, and deleting phonemes. The Project Read reading collection includes over 100 reading passages. These narrative and informative passages will help my students increase their vocabulary skills because they will practice reading and rereading them. I am fully confident that these resources will help me become a better educator and will help my students become better readers.
