As an educator for more than 30 years, I look forward to returning to the elementary classroom after serving as a high school principal for the past five years. In a few weeks, I will greet 26 second graders who deserve love, support, and encouragement. And, I need help in setting up a classroom to welcome the eager learners.
EVES is in Sonoma.
The school serves a community with students who are predominantly English Learners and nearly 80% of the student population is designated as socioeconomically disadvantaged.
With the October 2017 fires, many of our families still remember the horrors and helplessness that was felt as the fires raged surrounding the community. As an administrator returning to the classroom, I look forward to creating a welcoming environment, even with a limited budget, for these young students to learn and thrive.
My Project
Returning to the elementary classroom after two decades serving as an out-of classroom coordinator and administrator, I hope to create a physical educational environment in which my second grade students are welcomed and encouraged to explore and learn. Creating a physical space for students who come from economically challenging households is important to provide students with a safe, inviting place to learn.
With help from DonorsChoose.org, I would like to purchase an educational area carpet and a few bean bag chairs for group instruction and for students to engage in independent reading and exploration.
This will add to our room, making a space to learn and thrive.
