The old family photo album is no more! You are probably saying to your self...What? This is really no big news to my technology students in the high school where I teach. All they know is digital, digital, digital.
So...if digital is what they know, then digital is what they will get! I teach a "new emerging" technology lesson each semester. One lesson is how the Windows Movie Maker Software has taken over as the new "family photo album," although it is not quite the same from my viewpoint. Instead of sitting in front of the family fire or Christmas tree they sit in front of a computer. Now, grandparents don't live "just down the road" or "up the street" and are not involved in their grandchildrens' lives like it was when I was growing up. I encourage students to create movies to send to them and also create special movies at holidays and sentimental events for their parents. It's great when a student comes in the very next day and tells you they made one the previous night and emailed it to their grandparents out of state.
Although most of my students have a digital camera there are still many who do not. Also, many parents do not like for students to bring cameras to school because they might be stolen or lost. I would like to provide enough cameras so that my students can work in small-group media projects in class. I currently need three additional cameras to help make this possible.
You can make it possible for my students to work in smaller groups and feel like they have made an equal contribution to their projects. Your donation would also help projects run smoother and faster. We hope to have enough time to make individual projects and upload to online resources that help us bring back "the old photo album."
