I am a kindergarten teacher in a military town. Our school is a Title I school with 100% of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch. About 50% of our students have families that serve in the military. Other students live their entire lives in their home town and come from all walks of life. Due to the many different life experiences, students have diverse needs. All of my students are curious and excited to enter kindergarten!
My students are book-loving, enthusiastic, little sponges that soak up new knowledge through books and experiences.
They are eager to learn and explore the world around them. Books can allow student imaginations to soar and their knowledge of their world to grow!
This will be an exciting school year! We are very lucky to be moving into a newly built school. We have brand new tables and chairs in our classrooms. The rooms are beautiful and we have lots of books, but we are in need of bookshelves for our reading center. Many of my students do not have books at home to read. Our class library will provide may opportunities for inquisitive students to read on their quest for knowledge. Books are critical for early childhood development and easy access to these books promotes their use.
I want to provide an inviting class library that encourages a love of reading!
Settling in with a good book is a very important part of our kindergarten day. My students love to choose a book and a reading buddy ( a stuffed animal) to read to each day. A cozy corner with books organized on a nice shelf and some comfy seating will be a perfect reading nook! As a teacher of young children, it is so important for me to provide students an opportunity to fall in love with reading! New bookshelves would help me accomplish that goal!
