Never did I think that on March 14th that it would be the last time that I see my students face to face.
As a group we are learning how to navigate virtual learning with ZOOM meetings and Google classroom assignments.
The materials requested will allow my students the ability to see labs, demonstrations and other real world examples of material that we are covering remotely.
Since we are remotely learning it is vital for the students to see how science works not just off material in google classroom, virtual labs and ZOOM, but with real world demonstrations and outdoor experiences even though it is in a virtual setting.
My Project
The use of the video camera will allow me to create videos of demonstrations that we would normally do in class so that the students can get more of an authentic learning experience. The camera will allow me to document types of biodiversity, types animal/environmental interactions ect.. symbiotic relationships, interactions between biotic and abiotic factors. The water proof feature of the video camera will allow me to show the students in changes in stream water quality, from the head waters to the mouth of the river, without worrying water damage. The water proof feature will also allow the additional benefit creating videos of organisms underwater.
After we transition back into the traditional school setting.
My goal will be to allow the students to create videos using a new camera system, using this GoPro and accessories to share not only share with the rest of the school and peers, but create a project to illustrate a concept, idea or just bring to live imaginative ways to teaching science. As we build a library of technology to use in our classroom, my hope is that I can allow the students to explore and play with new technology that is relevant and current, something that can lead them to successes and a 21st century love for learning via technology here in middle school and prepare them for high school success in STEM related classes.
