Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
These athletes go to a high poverty, low-income Title I school, which means that they face many challenges even before they step foot in a school. After Hurricane Harvey, a lot of students came from Houston to our city in search of a new life.
My after-school athletic program is a safe environment where students go to have fun and stay away from crime and the danger of South Texas streets.
For most of my students, their teammates and the chance to participate in sports is what they look forward to every day.
Although faced with adversity my athletes find motivation in team sports. This motivation is what drives them to be academically successful. These students are talented and passionate and inspire me every day.
My Project
I am requesting this basic soccer and replacement equipment for my student's after school program. We need soccer nets because ours are worn out and we need the portable goals to play indoor soccer due to the hot Texas weather. In south Texas soccer the most popular sport, in my school we have three teams including 6 year old team and an all-girl team.
My project is a great way to have fun get some exercise and stay focus.
I believe everybody deserves an opportunity learn their favorite sport and with your help, we could achieve it. With the World Cup coming up to summer the interest in soccer is greater than ever. My students need this equipment stay motivated and to continue to work on the soccer skills.
