Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The school is low-income and we provide free breakfast every morning as well as free and reduced lunches. In the school there are around 22% that have "limited English proficiency". A designated English Language Development is set aside daily for those that need additional support.
My classroom of students all come from diverse backgrounds.
It varies from three generations living together to foster homes. There is one thing that is guaranteed to be constant in their lives and that is my classroom; which I call it "my house". There, the students will find safety, structure, and respect.
My Project
Our junior high P.E. program is run like a well oiled machine. We highlight a different sport a month. During the first three weeks we introduce the sport by stations that contain basic drills that the students rotate throughout the period. The last week we have actual games.
The students would benefit field hockey rebounds in order to get the full grasp, concept, and importance of shooting and making goals; whether it be hockey or soccer.
Just because the students come from low-income multifamily based units does not mean they should not have what kids of higher income use at their schools. Should they have proper equipment that works the students would be excited to play and be proud.
