My 5th grade students are living in the 21st century and technology should be a huge part of their everyday life. I would like the students to be able to learn how to use and incorporate technology in the classroom as a tool in their daily learning, but we are very limited on the technology we have.
My students live in a rural school district in AZ.
We are a Title I district with very limited funds. The students are hungry to learn all they can about the world around them and these Chromebooks will help with that. The minute the students step in the classroom door, it becomes their world. The classroom becomes a student-centered space with students completing jobs and working together. We are limited on the technology we have in our classroom and what we do have, is outdated and rarely works properly. Most students do not have a computer at home to learn with. School is the only place for some of them to practice with computers.
My Project
Students will use the Chromebooks on a daily basis during small group setting on activities that will enhance their reading and writing skills. Students will take reading test, practice various reading skills and interact with other students and technology while working together. Students will learn how to site textual evidence, read informational text, practice vocabulary skills, and improve reading comprehension. Students will conduct research on the Chromebooks and write essays for class projects. The students will be able to engage in web based projects that incorporate all areas of math, science, literacy, and social studies. The cases will be used to store and protect the Chromebooks.
With the Chromebooks, my students will be able to enhance their learning through the world of technology.
With the diverse learning styles in the classroom, these devices are necessary to help differentiate and bring in a new and innovative way of learning. These 21st-century learners will have the opportunity to go beyond just paper and pencil. This will bring a more efficient and effective way for students to collaborate and work on assignments and classroom activities.
