Throughout the year, the chorus, guitar, band, and piano students perform concerts and competitions, sing for local senior homes, and play in school recitals and musicals. They practice diligently day in and day out, sometimes leaving the school at 9pm or later. Our high school music students have a clear desire to learn and use new technology in the classroom.
For many students, a lack of new technology such as cell phones, computers, and even internet access can hinder their ability to complete class projects and homework.
I have heard many students talk about not having the internet or a computer at home. I want all of our high school students to have the best advantage for when they move on to college or the workforce.
As long as they are given the opportunity, our students have a strong dedication to succeed in music, in the school, and in our community. I truly look forward to many of them becoming local community leaders.
My Project
A traditional music classroom, especially for guitar, will see students practicing individually or playing as a group. What if we could record and project ourselves onto a large television screen? Or Skype with a professional musican in California? Or student-driven presentations from their practice chairs? What if we coule practice and learn through technology?
Music students at the high school will utilize the Google Chromebook in guitar, piano, chorus, rock and roll, and independent studies for a host of different projects.
It can be paired with apps and websites like Kahoot, Recap, Google Slides, Google Classroom, Skype, and YouTube. The Google Chromecast will also allow us to utilize and project anything from the computer screen on to our TV Screen.
