My students need 7 chrome books to create a Blogger's Cafe using Google sites. We will share our thoughts, questions and connections to the books we are reading.
Do you remember writing in a reading journal that only your teacher read? Well with today's Google Apps, my students can share their thoughts with each other too. Students are much more motivated and excited when they hear their peers reactions to their ideas. Blogging is the perfect way to do it.
Rambunctious and fun-loving describes my class.
It is constantly buzzing with chatter and activity. I will need to keep them busy using their talents for communication to provide a terrific school year.
I believe 4th graders are beautiful people. They are between the ages of 8 and 10 years old. Children at this age are beginning to feel the importance of social relationships. Learning to care, respect, and work together are critical during this time.
Our school-wide student population speaks 14 different languages, has 10% free or reduced lunch and 9% English language learners.
My Project
Our classroom equipment does not work well with our new district offered Google apps service. This incredible service allows students to work simultaneously on PowerPoint like presentations, outlines and documents as well as create and use websites. These seven Google Chrome books will allow me to meet the new common core technology standards while teaching students to blog in a closed and controlled environment. Students will share their thoughts around literature using these Chrome books at a classroom center while practicing Netiquette, respectful interaction on the Internet.
21st Century skills need to be taught early.
It is a perfect time to help students understand how to relate to others respectively on the Internet. Google Apps provides the perfect closed environment to do this. Only students from our classroom have access to created websites, documents and presentations. This allows me to teach 21st Century skills in a safe place. These Chrome books are perfectly designed for mobility and ease of use. I can soon integrate many subject areas in engaging ways.
