What student doesn’t want to visit historic sites to get up close and personal with the places where history happened?! I love my students’ desire for learning their history. They crave hands-on activities that bring the past to life! My middle school students can’t always get to walk in the footsteps of so many famous Americans. They do not typically get to go on a field trip each year so the next best solution is to bring the trip to them through virtual reality.
Lessons from the past are so important as I aim to mold students of today into the active citizens of tomorrow.
I am always seeking ways to make history more memorable for students.
One way I can bring history to life is with Virtual Reality. That’s right! I use Google Expeditions to take my students places they wouldn’t otherwise be able to go. However, we only have one set of cardboard goggles for the entire middle school, including some broken ones, which makes it difficult to have them when needed. I can do so much more if I have my own set.
Some examples of expeditions I’ve used are Battle of Little Bighorn, World War I Trenches, and D-Day.
The look on students’ faces when they get up close and personal with history is magical!
