My students need 2 Chromebooks to access online projects and research as well as utilize Google Drive so students can store, create, and collaborate on documents.
My students are living in a digital world without equitable access to advanced technological tools such as Chromebooks. My students have traditionally been disenfranchised due to the remote location of our school.
Students attend school of approximately 1000 students.
Most of our students live at or below the poverty line. Most of our students have the opportunity to be the first in their family to attend post-secondary education. Because our school is so remote (Kauai, Hawaii), students have limited resources available to explore the world.
My Project
Chromebooks are needed to provide students access to online projects and research. I intend to utilize Google Drive so students can store, create, and collaborate on documents, presentations, spreadsheets. I intend to use applications within Google Drive to address individual student needs in all core subjects aligned to the Common Core Standards. The initiative will also include resources dedicated towards ongoing professional development in using Chromebooks in the classroom. Our school poised well for this initiative. Currently, all students and teachers have access to an individualized Google account, which we call Kmail. Furthermore, many of our teachers are already online instructors and are accustomed to delivering content in an online, digital setting.
Our school is taking on an initiative to give all of our students one-to-one access to technology.
We recognize that our students are more engaged in their learning with technology tools. Technology tools offer students relevant and rigorous lessons through applications and software, as well as providing students with tools and skills to prepare them for college and career.
