Willy Wonka's madness was genius, and I aspire to it with passion.
Here's what my classroom is about:
1. Impossible is a curse word - “Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” We do today what was once witchcraft!
2. All progress is PROGRESS and failure isn't failure, it's finding a way not to do something. The only true failure is not ever trying, and we ALWAYS try or we don't show up.
3. Laughter cures things - we don't miss an opportunity to crack a joke and we fling sarcasm like monkeys fling poop. You have to enjoy what you do to do it well. Fun counts.
All of these things come from good pedagogy hundreds of years old blended with cutting-edge technology. I'm about using the best practices combined with the best tools to guide my students, and THEY tell me that it works. Wouldn't you want to spend time in this environment? Back me, then, because you now know my goal: make learning enjoyable by making the learning environment NOT SUCK.
The Google for Education Certified Innovator Program recognizes and supports top educators around the globe who are using technology to solve meaningful challenges in education. It's a community of more than 1,700 passionate educators in over 50 countries who are excited to grow professionally, advocate for innovative technologies and drive school transformation.
I'm one of 36 people across the world invited to the first cohort of the year - in Sydney, Australia!
I attend a three-day Innovation Academy focused on helping new participants define, design and eventually launch a transformative project - bringing better home internet connection to the students served by Quinlan ISD - and then I spend the next year building it.
My project asks for help with the airfare to fly to Google's Sydney headquarters and stay there for the four days of the event. Wanna help an extremely passionate educator learn how to build something great? I'M YOUR GUY!
