Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My pre-K students live in a very low-income area in Dallas, Texas. In our school, our goal is to prepare them with the necessary skills and knowledge to be successful. My students' age range is from early four to early five years-old. They are eager to learn new things and engage in fun and exciting learning activities. They like to learn by playing games, creating, and teaching each other and me.
My students make me smile every day and give me the inspiration to do my best in the classroom.
My Project
Our school is very old and the furniture we have, if any, is in very poor condition. We really need good storage that is safe and appealing to our students. As we get new materials I want my students to learn how to be organize, how to take care of materials and how to be responsible for the material they use.
My students will use this organizational skills throughout the rest of their life not only at school but at home as well.
I want my classroom to be set up to accommodate, facilitate, and challenge the children’s thinking. In this way, they can act as extensions of the teacher, who can’t be everywhere in the classroom at once.
With this storage system I will set up materials that are mostly familiar to my students. They will explore the materials to gain understanding and then I will observe them using the materials. When my students have gained understanding of what is set up in the area, I will help them extend their learning and challenges them by adding or replacing a part of the familiar materials that are set up.
